Last updated Friday, June 18, 2021 Between night and day there is an enchanted hour that renders the world strange. It's a liminal zone where certain crepuscular mammals comfortably wander. The darkness lends cover, but a dawning glow allows them to find one another and gather. Elsewhere, a large machine hurtles through the trees on a six-lane expressway blasting daylight as it moves. An encounter spawns terror dulled only by confusion - a scrambled recalibration manifests in the animal's paralysis and especially in its eyes. They glow bright, rebounding the same illumination that blinds them. "Like a deer in headlights," some say. The twilight between education and industry, accelerated toward daybreak by the engine of a thesis exhibition, does something similar to an art student's work... In some ways this book is just like any other: its pages gather dispersed, otherwise unavailable materials and deliver them into the hands of a reader. But this one is still in progress, or, in transit, and somehow its image arrives first. Meanwhile, the book is on the stoop, in the garden, out late at night - it's on the road - anywhere but its destination.
